Surrey House
Surrey House, a new home designed for a family of five, is nestled in the stunning Surrey countryside, offering breathtaking views. After relocating from bustling London, the clients purchased a derelict farm with the vision of building a home that would honor the farmstead’s heritage while embracing a tranquil, nature-centered lifestyle.

YAM Studios was tasked with designing the interiors, working alongside Trace Architects to bring the vision to life. The interior design draws heavily on the architectural concept, featuring tactile materials like corten steel, gabion walls, and wood to create a welcoming, textured environment. Concrete floors in soft taupe tones were paired with smoked oak wood flooring to introduce warmth and depth, balancing contemporary style with natural, rustic elements.

The custom joinery throughout was crafted to meet the family's needs, providing ample storage and ensuring functionality while maintaining a sleek, modern aesthetic. Particular attention was given to the children’s rooms, with custom-designed beds that maximize space and offer flexibility as the children grow. A playful hammock-style netting area was created on the first floor, suspended above the playroom, providing a fun and creative space for the children to relax, socialize, or watch TV.

The kitchen was tailored to the clients' preferences, with a design that optimizes space and captures panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Large sliding doors were incorporated to provide flexibility, allowing for an open-plan layout or the option to create more intimate, enclosed spaces as needed.

The living spaces were designed to accommodate the entire family, with a layout that offers both large areas for family get together and private spaces for relaxation. Exposing the structural glulam beams adds depth and texture to the interior, enhancing the overall design. The interior balances modern elements with natural textures, creating a warm, inviting home that seamlessly blends with its surroundings. This thoughtful design allows the family to embrace their new, peaceful country lifestyle while enjoying the comforts of contemporary living.
